KTM 890 Adventure R

The KTM 890 Adventure R is the most radical offroader in our line-up. We deliberately chose the "R" model variant for our tour in Andalusia because, here, KTM has implemented the concept of the fully offroad capable, mid-range adventure bike without any compromises.
As a logical further development of the 790 predecessor model, this machine features the latest generation of the KTM Parallel Twin. 100 hp and 100 Newton metres are quite a statement. However, even though the engine characteristics of the 890cc accommodate a sporty riding style in line with the brand slogan "Ready to race", the Twin is suitably designed for adventure riding That means: the performance is there where it counts. On the ground. The KTM comes ex works with high-quality suspension elements that, with 240 millimetres, offer by comparison the longest spring travel.
The interplay of successful geometry and high-quality components results in precise directional changes and enormous resilience in demanding terrain – and this without the 890 Adventure showing any weakness at high speed on gravel tracks.

Vehicle equipment

As we wanted the KTM 890 Adventure R to be sporty for the main part on our trip to Andalusia, we focused on the suspension system and on vehicle protection when it came to selecting the equipment.
WP's suspension system, which was already very good ex-works, received another significant upgrade through the addition of the Cartridge Kit Extreme in the fork as well as an Extreme type shock absorber. The hydroformed Rallye EVO engine guard was responsible for protecting the two-cylinder engine, with a four-millimetre-thick skid plate made of folded aluminium complemented by hydroformed side panels. Defensa hand protectors as well as tank crash bars and fairing crash bars made of orange coated stainless steel rounded off the protector equipment for the hard ride over the rocks of the Sierra.
The one-piece comfort seat combines maximum manoeuvrability for sporty driving with the best long-distance comfort.
To transport our luggage during the test tour, we switched between the Discovery soft luggage system, which in our experience is the first choice for offroad use, and the tried-and-tested ZEGA Evo aluminium pannier system.

Statement

The KTM once again impressed me with its ergonomics and excellent riding characteristics. The very low-slung fuel tank has a positive effect on offroad capabilities – especially at low speeds.
For those who appreciate a sporty engine characteristic, the 890 Adventure is a versatile motorcycle with excellent performance both onroad and offroad.
