Touratech ‘Expedition’ engine guard for the KTM 1390 Super Adventure

Reliable protection on any terrain

The rugged ‘Expedition’ engine guard is now also available for the KTM 1390 Super Adventure – for both the off-road-oriented R version and its sister model, the S.

With its 1,350 cubic centimetre V2 engine and an output of 175 PS, the KTM 1390 Super Adventure is designed for long distances. Whilst the S model is primarily intended for use on tarmac and gravel tracks, its sister model, designated ‘R’, is aimed at riders who don’t shy away from challenging terrain.

Regardless of the model variant chosen, the following applies: as soon as the KTM 1390 Super Adventure leaves tarmac roads, a particularly robust engine guard should be part of the equipment. Touratech is therefore now offering the ‘Expedition’ engine guard in a model-specific version for the top-of-the-range Adventure model from Mattighofen.

Built for tough conditions: specially bent multi-folded aluminium

At Touratech, the term ‘Expedition’ is deliberately reserved for products designed for particularly demanding conditions. This includes the ‘Expedition’ engine guard for the KTM 1390 Super Adventure.

The ‘Expedition’ engine guard is a welded construction made from a high-strength, four-millimetre-thick aluminium alloy. The base plate, which is edged at several positions, offers high rigidity and is dimensioned to withstand the stresses of tough offroad riding with ease.

Protection for the oil sump, engine casing and auxiliary units

On this basis, the design has been tailored specifically to the KTM 1390 Super Adventure. The contours, which follow the vehicle's lines closely, protect the underside of the engine and the lower sections of the engine casing, as well as auxiliary units and the exhaust manifolds. At the same time, ground clearance and lean angle are maintained. To match the vehicle's design, the aluminium surface of the engine guard is black anodised.

High-strength stainless steel substructure

The combination of the aluminium engine guard and the stainless steel substructure allows the forces generated during an impact to be dissipated efficiently. Any residual forces are distributed evenly throughout the frame.

The ‘Expedition’ engine guard protects against stones thrown up by the front wheel, as well as against contact with obstacles such as rock edges, protruding stones or tree trunk stumps.

Just like a skid plate in enduro racing, two rugged plastic rails on the underside of the engine guard help prevent the bike from catching on uneven ground or tree stumps. Furthermore, the rails completely cover the screw heads, which are already recessed. This ensures that the drive profiles of the fasteners are fully protected during off-road use, meaning that the engine guard can be removed without any problems even after a demanding off-road ride.
