But to tackle genuine off-road adventures unscathed, it needs sturdy protective gear. That’s why Touratech is expanding its range of accessories for the R 12 G/S with an ultra-tough engine crash bar.
Protector made from 25 x 2 mm stainless steel tubes
The Touratech engine crash bar is a well-engineered structure made of 25 x 2 mm stainless steel tubing. The three-dimensional protector encloses the boxer engine’s cylinders from all sides and effectively protects the particularly vulnerable cylinder heads and valve covers from damage – both off-road and on the road. The combination of high-strength material, sophisticated geometry and dual mounting points on the frame achieves an unrivalled level of protection. Despite its robustness, the design closely follows the contours of the engine, resulting in a slender, sporty appearance and preventing unnecessary leverage forces in the event of a fall.
The surface of the precision-welded stainless steel tubes is finished with a matt powder coating, available in either understated black or vibrant red. On the black version, laser markings add further functional accents.

Optional Tech-Plates for extra features
With the Tech-Plates, Touratech is opening a whole new chapter in the field of motorcycle accessory mounting. Sturdy and functional, the Tech-Plates can be seamlessly integrated into various protective components – including the engine crash bar for the BMW R 12 G/S.
The lower Tech-Plate is made of 4 mm stainless steel and features sturdy eyelets for securing strap belts. This allows the machine to be lashed down quickly and securely for transport.
The upper tech plate is made from 4 mm-strong aluminium and has a black anodised finish. Several generously sized cut-outs enable the attachment of luggage or additional equipment. Both plates are precisely tailored to the geometry of the crash bar and are easy to fit.
In addition to providing extra mounting options, the Tech-Plates also increase the overall rigidity of the structure, thereby further enhancing the protective effect.
The Touratech engine crash bar for the BMW R 12 G/S is available both as a standalone item and as part of a bundle with the Tech-Plates.
